Indianapolis Population
Indianapolis is the 12th largest city in the United States. The population is roughly 800,000. Central Indiana has reached a population of over 1.5 million, causing Indiana to be the Midwest’s third largest city. The growth rate for Indiana is more than 5 percent. Indy is one of the few major Midwest cities that can say this. Business & Economic Environment in Indianapolis. Indianapolis offers a wonderful business city environment. The companies in Indianapolis range in type and size. Several examples are Conseco Field house and Circle Center Mall, were production and partnerships are strong between our public and private mainframe. Local area businesses and community members have dedicated many resources in hopes of inspiring growth in the region. Indianapolis offers a number of incentives for businesses, like tax credits, grants, and tax abatement. There is no use and sales taxes for equipment and materials, and no corporate franchise taxes. Greater Indianapolis and Central Indiana consists of nine counties. The counties consist of Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Johnson, Madison, Marion, Morgan, and Shelby. Indianapolis stands up to the title, “Crossroads of America.” Indiana’s central location causes the state to be an ideal place for real estate development and business development. It allows companies to quickly reach their clients and suppliers. Some of Indy’s strengths are retail and distribution. Indiana’s real estate market does not experience the ups and downs like other cities. Indiana was voted the 6th in the nation for our great business climate, by Entrepreneur Magazine in 2005. Indiana was voted the 5th largest city for entrepreneurs ,by Entrepreneur Magazine in 2005.
Indianapolis Culture
Indianapolis offers a wonderful heritage. Conner Prairie, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and the Children’s Museum, offer great recreation. Our Indianapolis government has attempted to point out our diverse culture, by assigning specific areas known as “Cultural Districts. Some of these are as follows: Broad Ripple, Mass Avenue, White River St. Park, Fountain Square, Wholesale District, Indiana Avenue, Monument Circle, and the War Memorial.
Indianapolis Overview

The town has gone through dramatic growth, and positive changes. Indianapolis is the perfect balance of style and character adding a cozy small town feel. Indy is a beautiful clean city, and the streets are cleaned each evening. This makes downtown Indianapolis a successful hot spot for travel, business, tours, dining, to over twenty million visitors a year. Indiana is easily accessible from many avenues throughout the mid-west. At least one half of our country’s population is within one day’s drive. This makes traveling to Indiana by automobile a very attractive option. If you would rather fly, the Indianapolis International Airport offers many airlines, and nonstop flights to over thirty destinations. You will discover Indy to be a refreshing and diverse variety in the arts, special attractions, historical events, and family attractions. If you visit the Indiana Repertory Theater you will find professional and brilliantly entertaining theater, comedies, dramas, and musicals on two stages. Enjoy the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra at the Hilbert Circle Theater. They perform year round. The Soldier’s & Sailor’s Monument made of limestone is found at downtown Monument Circle. It was dedicated in 1902. The monument is a tribute to Indiana men and women who served in the Civil, and Spanish-American Wars. The observation tower offers a panoramic look-out of the city skyline. This is one of the only 26 national monuments in the nation. Be sure to visit the White River State Park. The White River State Park is found in downtown Indianapolis. The activities offer interesting venues for the public. The Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art showcase the art finds, and stage the culture history of the American West. The Indian Market is an activity offered every summer. One hundred fifty Native American artists from across the world are at this event. The student-athlete at the NCAA Hall of Champions offers interactive displays and video presentations for patrons to view and hear the athletes and coaches who have excelled in their particular sport.
Indianapolis Recreation
See the animals at the Indianapolis Zoo and White River Gardens. Plants and animals are the main attraction. The zoo, aquarium, and botanical gardens are all situated on 64 acres in White River State Park. The Indianapolis Zoo features about 4,000 animals, and offers the state’s largest aquarium. We offer the country’s first entirely submerged, underwater viewing dome for the dolphins. The Indiana State Museum offers a look into the state’s African-American history. There are four planned performance stages presenting a diverse experience of black heritage in Indiana. You also can see a movie at the IMAX theater. Take a look at the past and present African-American culture. Take a tour, and view the paintings, sculptures, and photographs from African, American, Asian and European artists at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. It is one of the largest art museums in the nation. Learn about Indiana’s history at The Lilly House and Gardens. They offer eight rooms that have been restored and furnished. The home has undergone a great deal of expansion and renovation in the recent past. You will find a plethora of gallery space, and a great restaurant called “Pucks.” Conner Prairie is located in Fishers Indiana. Over 325,000 patrons visit the museum each year. The 19th century history museum’s frontier village comes alive, and the past becomes the present. Partake in authentic activities, celebration, and dancing. In December you can take the kids to see the Gingerbread Village. Bring the family for some good old fashion fun. The Children’s Museum just north of downtown Indianapolis offers hours of amazing family fun. The museum is five stories with thousands of artifacts, and many galleries to explore science, history, dinosaurs, culture and the arts. A lot of the exhibits are hands on, and great tools for learning. The antique carousel on the fourth floor offers free rides, if you are a member. See the stars at the Space Quest Planetarium. The Dino sphere reflects one of the largest displays of real dinosaur fossils in the Nation. You should not miss this most impressive venue.
Indy is the “Racing Capital of the World”, and holds the two largest one-day sporting events in the nation.
The Indianapolis 500 and the Brickyard 400 take place at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Every race draws crowds from across the world. If you tour the Hall of Fame located on the grounds of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, you will discover how racing started. Indianapolis offers all kinds of special sporting events. Millions of people come to Indy, and participate in the Indianapolis 500 Festival, found at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Don’t forget to come see the 500 Festival parade. Enjoy the sights, music concerts, smells, and great food at the Indiana State Fair. It is the oldest state fair in the nation running in August. Indianapolis gives an enjoyably. Racing is definitely not all Indianapolis has to offer a “sports nut.” Indianapolis offers professional teams in the majority of major sports, such as basketball, football, and baseball. Take a good look at the downtown skyline with the Indianapolis Indians at Victory Field. See the NBA Pacers play at Conseco Field house. The Indianapolis Colts are Super Bowl XLI Champions, and play at our Indianapolis RCA Dome. Come out, and watch the excitement. The O’Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis, is located near the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Indy is home to the wealthiest drag racing event in the nation. Fast speeds and the loud roar of huge engines come back to this quarter-mile drag strip every Labor Day for U.S. Nationals. The six-month season offers over a hundred days of excitement.
